I have been paying money to Ruthbridge for a while. I have no correspondence from them as to what i am paying for or anything. I am unsure as to what to do. I have read several threads on here regarding Ruthbridge and they are prior to paying them money.

Please could you advise me as to what to do. Shall i cancel the payments and wait for them to contact me. I have emailed them a couple of times asking for the information.

Many Thanks

I have no idea. I am going through my bank statements at the moment to find out how long i have been paying them. As i said i have no correspondence from them and i have files for everything!

The only thing i think it may be is for a store card from when my daughter was born 7 years ago!

Try to find out what it is for. There's no rush. We won't go away, and you'll get plenty of support on here.

If it is a store card, i have a template letter for you, but before popping it up, you should try to establish what it relates to.

Thanks, Vex

We will most probably suggest that you write to them, BUT i'm not sure what to put in that letter unitl we know some more.

Ruthbridge are another one of those 'Dog Butt' debt collection agencies (DCA) that perform very poorly. They are NOT anywhere near the top of an otherwise pretty poor league of DCA's, and they are pretty easy to turn over

We'll get you moving in the right direction, but you need to find that info.

When you pop your next post on here, i'll receive an email, AND others will be able to look and contribute through the 'new posts' section of the site, so don't worry about being forgotten.

Thanks, Vex

BTW - if you stop paying (which is what is most likely to be suggested) you will soon hear from them, and that letter will help unearth more info.

Do NOT accept any calls from them, and do NOT call them.

When you get to writing, DO NOT sign anything - you'll be using a digital signature from now on. There is a link to how to do that on this site (we'll cross that bridge later).

Thats what i thought Vex. If i stopped the payment going out for December then im sure i will hear something from them in the new year and then i could go forward from that.

Also living off the mainland, we dont get any people calling at our doors or anything like that. Ive also changed my phone number since they were last in contact with me.

Joijo...one question ? is there any point during the life of the debt where you have not made a payment or acknowledged the debt for 6 years ? i.e. is there a gap of 6 years at anytime ?

Have you sent them a request for a copy of your agreement ?

I dont think there was a gap of 6 years to be honest. If it was from a store card then it would of been a maximum of 4-5 till i started paying.

Ive not sent them a request asking for a copy of the agreement as i was very young and naive at the time that i started paying and didnt know where to find any information that would of helped me.

I have received an email from them saying, and i quote 'Received'.... People of many words

Hi 42 Man

That's most likely the next step, but we're not exactly sure what the debt is for. Possibly a store card, which as you say will require an agreement (that they can enforce - or not as we guess). It could be a fine though.

Hopefully Jo can tell us soon.:)

I doubt it unless you took them to court, as unless you paid under duress then it could be said you paid willingly....

Send the agreement request first, enclose a £1 postal order and send recorded - Letter 'N' from here - http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/general-debt-issues/20758-creditors-dcas-letter-templates.html

yes - Get letter N off into the post

A few tips.

  • Make a note of the serial number of your postal order...

So change the line in Template N to read like this: "I enclose a postal order, serial number ________, in the sum of £1.00, which is the statutory fee. Note that these funds are not to be used for any other purpose".

Your record of the serial number will be printed on the post office till receipt. A £1.00 postal order will actuially cost you £1.50

  • DO NOT sign the letter. Use a DIGITAL SIGNATURE. The CAG guide is here:

http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/general-debt-issues/110578-digital-signature-guide.html

  • Send your letter with a Royal Mail proof of postage certificate as a MINIMUM. Preferably use Recorded delivery.

Good Luck
