Hi,

Im in a really horrible situation and I have no idea how to get out of it.

5 months ago I just managed to sell my house before it was repossessed...

it cost me about £1000 to sell it (the shortfall) but I managed it.

Thing was I also owed quite a bit of money in council tax arrears and had promised the bailiffs that I would pay back what I owed once the house was sold.

I knew that I couldnt do that as I was aware of the shortfall of the sale, but I felt so pressured into saying it as they were hassling me all the time for money.

I ended up paying them £300 prior to the sale but then I just 'vanished'

I didnt give a forwarding address and hoped to sort my personal financial situation out first without worrying about other creditors.

Today, 5 months on from that I got my wage slip from work.

It was £705 less than it should be.

.. the reason being is there were 2 attchment of earnings listed on there.

I havent checked but im sure it must be from the council tax.

Once again I am deep in financial trouble.

I CANNOT afford that much each month.

With rent and bills paid for I am left with just £150 a month to live off.

That wont even cover my petrol to and from work let alone by food for myself.

What can I do??

I have read that they can only take 17% of your wage..

. but they have taken much much more.

Can anyone help?

Thank you.

Can nobody help?

Or is this in the wrong thread?

As horrid as it sounds, the council tax is the only debt you can be actually jailed for.

Taking all your money sounds out of order, but they seem to not care and also seem to be able to do what they want.

I'm not so sure you can challenge the amount.

Once with my council tax i missed 2 months because of money issues and they said they would summons me.

I rang and complained saying it was a yearly bill from April 1st to 31st march yearly and i cant see what the problem is if it is paid before the end date each year, they said it is classed as loan i have to pay without missing a payment.

So i asked if i paid it all on April 1st would i get a rebate lol, they said NO, but they would be willing to take it in advance, but not willing to let you pay what you want each month as long as it finishes within the timescale.......rip off britain
