Hi guys just came across this site while trying to look up some info for a friend.

Just need another take on her situation.

Last week she started training and working for a care home for the elderly and as of yet her CRB check has not been completed but she has over the last day or two remebered something that might show up on the report and she is now worrying her self sick over it.

She is now 36 and when she was 19 her boyfriend at the time broke up with her as he was seeing another girl and well she was going through as tough time and made some nastyish phone calls to his new GF which they recorded.

She was taken to court and fined £100 for it.

Now she is not sure if it will effect her keeping the job and at this point she is feeling guilty working there if this prevents her from keeping the job etc.

She has said she is going to go in early before her shift tomorrow to talk to her manager about it.

I just wanted to get some other opinions before she does.

So if you have any advice it would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance for any help or comments you make.

Very much doubt it will come up, given that convictions are spent after 5 years and, whilst the police will keep a copy of it on their records, they are supposed to be removed from the CRB.

Thats is what I had in my head but she said she has rung the CRB people up and thety said it would show up.

She says she feels like a criminal after talking to them so just wanted to try to comfort her that it is not as big as she feels it is.

Thank you for the advice.

Hello there. This crops up regularly on the forum and if you have time, you could search it for CRB threads.

From what I've read, employers are fairly sympathetic to deeds carried out in people's youth. I think she could be doing the right thing discussing it, saying that it's a long time ago and she feels very ashamed now.

If it's an enhanced CRB is will show up. As the offence is such a long time ago and isn't fraud or violence it should not affect her ability to do such a job. Employers should look at each case in context.

Just because there is an offence on an Enhanced CRB, it doesn't necessarily mean you cannot work with vulnerable people, again context needs to be used.

It's not fair that offences such as the one described continue to be on record, because "spent" should mean spent in my view. However, there are many offences that can never be spent, and these should be listed.

Thank you for the replies guys.

She has had a lot of tough time over the last 8-10 years and this for her is like a new start to a new life but she is very worried of losing the job but I think she will be fine and will pass this info on to her.

Again thank you.
